Daniel Sorrentino
(b. 1971, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
Daniel Sorrentino is a visual artist, photographer, and researcher whose work investigates the perceptions of the passage of time through images and the subsequent creation of memories. Based in Porto, Portugal, Sorrentino holds a Master’s degree in Art and Design for the Public Space from the Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto (FBAUP).
His practice is defined by an inquiry into the visual image, rooted in a transition from the study of structural systems to artistic experimentation. With an initial background in Business Administration (UFPR, 1998), Sorrentino developed a methodical approach to complex processes, which later informed his systematic and conceptual work in the visual arts.
A central pillar of his career is his long-standing contribution to the Festival de Curitiba, one of Latin America’s most prominent cultural events. Between 2005 and 2024, as the Head of Photography, he led the visual documentation of the festival, working within a large collective of artists and professionals to preserve the memory of thousands of performances. This role allowed him to refine a critical gaze on the fleeting nature of the gesture and the body in space. His professional experience also includes fifteen years as a Professor of Photography at SENAC, where he taught the integration of historical photographic techniques with contemporary digital workflows.
In recent years, Sorrentino’s practice has expanded within the European artistic scene, notably through his participation in the YES (Young European Sculpture) Program. His current work navigates the boundaries between photography, sculpture, and digital media, exploring how images act as vessels for time. By merging decades of technical expertise with a focus on spatial theory and abstraction, Daniel Sorrentino interrogates the permanence of visual records and their role in the construction of collective and individual memory.
