Developed in partnership with Miguel Costa, this ongoing documentary project follows the creation and installation of a large-scale public sculpture by Meireles de Pinho in Vila Nova de Gaia. The monument—a stainless steel carnation measuring 8 metres in diameter—is supported by an 8-metre tubular steel structure. The work focuses on documenting the processes of fabrication and installation, rather than the finished object.
The project establishes a visual record of the technical, material and artistic dimensions involved in the production of a large-scale intervention. Through photographic documentation, it examines the relationship between industrial fabrication and artistic practice, tracing the development of the work from workshop to site. Particular attention is given to the contrast between the symbolic form of the carnation and the physical properties of the materials and construction methods employed.
The documentation is currently being developed into a large-format publication of approximately 120 pages, scheduled for release in June 2026. The project foregrounds process as an integral component of the work’s meaning and public presence.
