Non-manifesto was developed during the Masterclass #3 of the YES (Young European Sculpture) Program in Kuldiga, Latvia, in collaboration with researcher Sara Silva (FBAUP). The overarching theme of the masterclass was "Europe Without Borders." Despite the program’s focus on sculpture, we were challenged to create a "monument" without using any physical materials.
We opted for an Augmented Reality (AR) and 3D rendering approach, installing a digital artwork within the public space. The piece consisted of virtual pillars representing the fundamental values of the European Union, as established in Article 2 of the EU Treaty: human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and respect for human rights, including the rights of minorities.
The project was conceived and executed in less than 72 hours. The final video documents the accelerated creative process and the digital art's placement in the physical environment of Kuldiga. By using 3D renders instead of stone or metal, Non-manifesto questions the traditional permanence of monuments and proposes a "borderless" materiality that exists in the digital-physical hybrid space.
